50 Suns
Photographing the sun every day for 50 consecutive days, I was interested in documenting the aesthetic beauty that so uniquely guides human activities and achievements with every moment, and yet is impossible to look at directly. The photographs were taken between noon and sunset every day from May 18th to July 6th, 2009 with a Rolleiflex twin lens reflex camera. Displayed in a 7x7 grid of 6" c-prints, the collection highlights the distinct patterns that stem from the light, each day slightly differing from the next. The photographs depict interrupted moments just outside my home in Oakland, California. The sun's unyielding presence over the 50 days ultimately created a detailed quilt of texture, color and time.
